Following the State of the Union address, the National Association of Home Builders released a statement that commends the proposals mentioned by President Barack Obama that would help families avoid falling into foreclosure. (Thursday, January, 2012)
As the presidential election approaches, sources say the housing industry will continue to be a hot topic amongst candidates but a recent survey on housing shows that the majority of voters say neither the Democratic or Republican party are doing a good job on housing.
"In this election year, voters will be looking closely at President Obama, the GOP presidential contenders and congressional candidates from both political parties to determine how they plan to put housing and the economy back on track," said Bob Nielsen, NAHB chairman.
Nielsen says that Obama's refinancing plan will allow further investigation for ways to assist homeowners facing foreclosure. The NAHB announced that they are looking forward to working with the White House as well as Congress to help eliminate the downward weight foreclosures have put on the housing market's recovery.
The NAHB reports that building more homes creates jobs and increases tax revenues that help support public schools and other service jobs including police and firefighters.
